R'N'B lite Classic of the day
Kinda wonderful stuff by Product G&B from an RnB4U 41 unreleased track pack... It's rather timeless and has that fat 60t's refrain...
Saunders Sermon and Yahzarah
Another top track that's been floating around (also on Sound Rotation)
http://soundrotation.blogspot.com/2010/09/saunders-sermons-ft-yahzarah-you-got.html
KILLER new single from singer, trombonist Saunders Sermons which is a duet with the soul SIREN Yahzarah. This is the 1st single for his upcoming project "Just What She Needs", which is just what I needed. "You Got A Hold On Me" is a slight departure from the mellow jazzy sound 1st release & it's Ay OK. It's more of a snare driven 2 stepper the grooves with his smooth voice & Yahzarah letting her inner Minnie Riperton shine. These 2 need to collab more often (hint hint). I can't WAIT to hear the rest of the project. But for now, I'm gonna enjoy this & YOU SHOULD TO!!

Himal ft. Cage Lu "Broke"
Props to SOUNDROTATION.........
Nice smooth jazzy soul tune from West London singer Himal featuring a verse from UK mc Cage of the 9Dots crew. This song is dedicated to all people struggling financially in the bad world economy. It's produced by West London artist Zansika whom I love a singer thru her work with Phil Asher & Restless Soul. Check it out!

Bigger Time
I had the good fortune to meet up with Bigger (a UK based DJ) last night. He's pretty dear to me for many reasons. He is one of those radio DJ's where I've managed to cross from being a fan- to sending him tracks that end up featuring on his show.
I'll never forget the first show I heard of his back in 2001-he played Rell and this by Bilal-which remains to this day one of my all time fave tracks. Dripping in soul with a magical refrain and backing vocal............

For Lasse B. (4)
Before Foreign Exchange and Zo were Little Brother and the Phonte creation "Percy Miracles". Percy was a parody of a Soul Singer in the Old School way-and often enough an excuse for reluctant singer Phonte to express his vocal chords. Little of Percy remains today but here he is in fine form on RJD2's Jam.....
Spoiler of the day
As many probably know El DeBarge is working on new material-his new CD Second Chance (on Interscope)-is due quite soon...-ish....
A single has been released (quite unmemorable) on itunes and Interscope have been wise to keep the cards close to the chest regarding the rest of the product.
The tiny world of modern soul in the UK always loves a revival of an artist. This years flagship Mod Soul event for example features the dream team "last of the summer wine" coupling Michael Henderson and Jean Carne. Now where either of these two to simply fart near a microphone you could be assured the next week the likes of the Soul Sermon, Soulsorts and so on would be playing it. The real world though is a bit more demanding. El DeBarge himself is hardly Hilton Luxury Soul Weekender fodder-even if he actually reaches a (ever so slightly) younger demographic important to the Modern Soul Scene. The material though always had a bit too much Pop about it to cut it.
The revival template was recently re written by Maxwell-his almost never ending live performances and tours, TV show guest spots, and willingness to turn up at the opening of an envelope-took the luke warmly received BSN CD to Grammy status. It's no small wonder the BSN follow up is overdue... I mean who wants to give over 18 months of one's life to ceaselessly promoting a new CD ?
Meanwhile El DeBarge is getting out there preparing the ground. This week 106 and Park-next week Late Night Chat shows. The interest is mounting take this leak first put out on 15/09/10 and just about everywhere on the net....
Call me deeply disturbed but what I like about this is the fact that it isn't auto tuned because it doesn't need to be. El sort of always sounded auto tuned even though he wasn't -which makes him kinda special... In fact this works very well.

The Floacist "Forever" ft. Musiq Soulchild
From Soundrotation:
As the creative mastermind behind the NuSoul duo Floetry, Natalie Stewart aka The Floacist is stepping out solo with a project The Floacist present Floetic Soul, which is releasing in November on the indie powerhouse label Shanachie. This is the 1st single from the project. "Forever" is a good slow love groover that is the sound that Floetry was no for (think Say Yes) & features NuSoul prince Musiq Soulchild.

Bedroom of the Night
Well there you go ! Rahbi seems to have it sussed -it's either "in.out.in.out".....fast.... OR -"....in....out....in.....out"......slow-which frankly hardly strikes me as the greatest approach..Then again I'm clueless and to his credit he does seem to be seeking feedback....There are snatches of this track I quite like (note Viz Fat Slaggs reference)
R'N'B lite Classic of the day
For a while Sterling Simms had it all-a real R'N'B lite hero...here he is doing a Eric Bennet style Song.... It's got the tags and the Black 'N Beats Vibzs spoiler....and the tagged production also speaks volumes-especially as it doesn't feature the dreaded "whoop" sound.....2007 a good year for the Lite stuff

Les Nubians
In šāʾ Allāh
In šāʾ Allāh is an Arabic phrase I first became aware of in the 1980t's. It means God Willing-though my company at the time used it in an almost ironic way. It's a phrase that brings a lot of memories flooding back. Course back in 2006 I was all over torrenazos (before music blogs really took off) downloading.. well everything related to Black Music such as this CD by Nadiya. Hearing this track in 2006 therefore had a resonance.
It's a throw away thing- with a nice keyboard hook...Which I forgot all about within weeks-till tonight prompted by looking for French (?) vocals....
Real proper Oldie of the Day
I've been meaning to post up this evergreen classic for some time now. Quite simply wonderful for many reasons-the words-the Skip S arrangement-and it's never ending popularity. Indeed I looked to post a you tube embed on Face book because frankly I'm even more ignored on there than here-but shock horror nobody has uploaded it to you tube !
Well I have the LP and a few years ago did a very classy recording of it. The LP12 (my turntable) back then was on song- plus I used wave repair to clean the file by hand painstakingly frame by frame (44 frames = 1 second). As bitching luck would have it though I can't find my recording-it's among the hundreds of back up CDR discs lying around. So I turned to the internet yet on every version of Secrets I downloaded this track sounded very poor indeed.
Tonight I gave up looking for the CDR instead I dusted off the LP12 which I've been informed needs £350.00 to make it sound like it used too- found the leads I need- and re-recorded it. It took not much time at all really (say 45 minutes)...even though it's untreated so complete with noise and pops-it's the best mp3 version out there ...

Sounds Like...... (part 1)
Ultimate Street Soul White Label 12
One of my all time fave recordings done from my dear departed 1973 Sugden tuner-to an old stereo cassette deck ( to a TDK SA C90)- Recorded from Soul Nation Pirate Radio Station in August 1993. I fell in love with it at first listen but waited a few months before going to Expansions to see if I could buy it. Dean told me he had it but it was sold out..... I looked and looked. In recent years Stevie told me he had a copy but.....
In a way it is what it is-a dodgy recording full of compression and in my heart I know I'll never hear it again except as this recording....
But it's still great to me

Lowdown- no not really
This is another recent cover version -I'm not truly crazy about it -but I am warming to it...... The Roots are pretty special and under valued (least in Modern Soul Circles) -John Legend doesn't quite gather as much respect in my eyes but he's OK here-least he isn't doing a vocal impression...
I suppose coming from a similar Music Educational background as DH gives him more actual insight than any army of old Soul heads such as myself..........

Soul Togetherness 2007
In feb 2007 a limited edition EP by Jazzy Jeff was released then leaked everywhere. Of the seven tracks the one most desired was "My Souls not 4 Sale"... I loved it at the time and encouraged Richard to play it at Prestwich-it's still probably the best thing he ever played at the venue-well the most Urban thing (though God only knows.... Richard probably thinks "My Blackness" by Gary Taylor is). The irony of hearing him say "Does anyone have it here on a CDR ?" because he forgot his copy- is very post modern seeing as he got it on the Togetherness CD of 2007......
Still a few weeks later I revisited the 7 tracker and was bowled over by the track posted below. Unlike "My Soul" this never made the Jazzy Jeff CD (well slated on EMS as I recall)...
"whatever you want" by Little Brother is proto Zo style. It's a catchy song full of hooks well written and performed.....
One day something by this outfit will feature on a Soul Togetherness CD but when..... !!!

The Old and the Newer
Sometimes the references are all that matters.....
Back in 1976 I loved the Glow LP-I bought it then and still own it... This isn't the best of it of course-it's a workman like cover job...
Still it's got something about it.....
Mind you so has this by Little Brother- A track that speaks of Dancing as it should be.....Probably my fave comment on dancing
"We both back together trying to become one-You tend to throw it back harder when your song is on (oh that's my song there)-Oh that's your song Baby-keep on throwing it back and lets go crazy"

Despite rushing round burning "Top Buzz" (Google it-I had to)-for somebody else to audio.... and sneezing my head off.....and waiting on the man.... I still managed to get this....incidental to everything else that was going on
